'Karuthalayi Caritas' Flood Relief Initiative: Special Medical Teams Deployed
As part of the 'Karuthalayi Caritas' flood relief initiative being implemented by Caritas Hospital in collaboration with the Government of Kerala for flood-affected communities, a flag-off ceremony for the special medical teams was held today at 8:00 AM at Caritas Hospital.
The ceremony was presided over by Rev. Dr. Binu Kunnath, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Caritas Hospital and its educational institutions. Shri. Mons Joseph, Minister for Water Resources, Government of Kerala, flagged off the medical teams, marking the commencement of the flood relief operations. Shri. Nattakom Suresh MLA, Shri. Chandy Oommen MLA, Shri. K. Binimon MLA, and Mr. Tomy Kuruvila, Chairperson of Ettumanoor Municipality, attended the event and extended their wishes.
Caritas Hospital has deployed 10 special medical teams comprising doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers to provide healthcare services in flood-affected areas of Kottayam district. Medical camps have been established at Puthuppally, Kumarakom, Kaduthuruthy, Vaikom, Ettumanoor, Chengalam, Mannarkkad, Theruvathukkal, Kummanam, and Kaduthuruthy. These camps will provide flood-affected people with essential medicines and emergency medical care.
Rev. Dr. Binu Kunnath stated that the objective of the 'Karuthalayi Caritas' initiative is to ensure timely medical treatment, essential medicines, and compassionate support for every family affected by the floods. He added that service is the fundamental mission of Caritas and that standing alongside people during times of disaster, sharing their hardships, and ensuring access to quality healthcare is an integral part of the hospital's social commitment.
Hospital authorities also informed that, in addition to the medical camps, the relief initiative will ensure the distribution of essential medicines and continued follow-up care for patients in the affected regions.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by the Joint Directors of Caritas Hospital, department heads, doctors, nursing representatives, pharmacy staff, members of the Social Work Department, and other hospital employees.
