Curriculum for Fellowship in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology
Program Overview
The Fellowship in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology aims to train radiologists to become skilled in providing comprehensive care to patients with all multiple organ systems. The program emphasizes on both clinical expertise and research skills..
Objectives:
- To provide advanced training in Diagnostic Radiology
- To develop expertise in managing multiple disease conditions under the scope of Interventional Radiology.
Curriculum Structure
The fellowship spans one year and is divided into Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology postings.
Clinical Postings:
- Inpatient / Bedside Ultrasound including emergencies
- Outpatient Ultrasound
- Cardiac CT and Vascular CT
- MRI
- IR day care / OPD procedures
- IR in patient procedures
Curriculum :
- USG and CT guided FNAC, biopsy and drainage
- Gastro interventions (HCC, Biliary, CLD with portal Hypertension)
- Oncology related procedures (PICC line, Chemoport)
- Nephro (Renal biopsy, AV Fistula)
- Peripheral vascular (Angioplasty and recanalisation)
- Trauma (Embolisation)
- Neuro (Stroke Thrombectomy, DSA, Aneurysm)
- MSK
- Case-based discussions in diagnostic imaging
- Journal Club
Teaching Methods :
- Lectures, Case discussions
- Journal clubs
- Clinical rotations
- Observership / Hands-on training
Core Competencies
Fellows should acquire the following competencies :
- Comprehensive knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations of multi organ system diseases.
- Proficiency in the diagnostic imaging with multiple modalities.
- Skill in the management of disease conditions with multi departmental involvement.
- Ability to perform basic level procedures
- Prevention of complications
- Proficiency in pre and post procedure management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Evaluation
Fellows will be evaluated through a combination of :
- Clinical evaluations by attending Radiologists
- Written examination
- Practical oral examination

- Interprofessional Collaboration: Foster collaboration with other healthcare professionals (e.g., IR nurses, dieticians, social workers)
- Quality Improvement: Encourage participation in quality improvement initiatives
- Patient Education: Emphasize the importance of patient education and counseling
- Ethics: Address ethical issues in daily practice
- Simulation-based Learning: Incorporate simulation for procedural skills and crisis management
