Fellowship Program Overview

The Fellowship in Clinical Nephrology and Dialysis aims to train physicians to become skilled nephrologists capable of providing comprehensive care to patients with kidney diseases. The program emphasizes both clinical expertise and research skills..

Curriculum Structure

The fellowship typically spans one year and is divided into Clinical Nephrology and Dialysis postings.

Core Competencies

Fellows should acquire the following competencies :

  • Comprehensive knowledge of renal physiology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations of kidney diseases
  • Proficiency in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic kidney diseases
  • Expertise in dialysis modalities, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy
  • Skill in the management of electrolyte and acid-base disorders
  • Ability to perform renal biopsies and interpret results
  • Prevention of kidney disease progression
  • Proficiency in vascular access management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Evaluation

Fellows will be evaluated through a combination of :

  • Clinical evaluations by attending Nephrologists
  • Written examination
  • Practical oral examination

  • Interprofessional Collaboration: Foster collaboration with other healthcare professionals (e.g., nephrology nurses, dieticians, social workers)
  • Quality Improvement: Encourage participation in quality improvement initiatives
  • Patient Education: Emphasize the importance of patient education and counseling

  • Simulation-based Learning: Incorporate simulation for procedural skills and crisis management
